    Cool Hi, From IL

    Hello Forum,
I have been shaving with a safety razor for 10 years now and have always wanted to go to the ways I saw my grandfather do it overseas. The other day something clicked and it said, now is the time to learn, to take your time and figure this out. So i started looking online and luckily found this helpful site with the wiki, and videos.

I am hoping some people can share some pointers on what is good beginner straight razor, I am looking for something that is good for a beginner but recommended by an expert.

    Thank you.

    xyber3364,

Welcome to SRP. Happy to have you aboard. As you have already noted, there's lots of information here to assist you in becoming an even better straight razor user.

After shaving for ten years with a straight, there are probably a few things you can teach us. But as you already know, there's always room for improvement.

    Take care--and smooth shaving.

    Hello, and welcome to SRP!
You have come to the right place to learn, this site is full of info. First we have the wiki, where you will find basic info on all things straight razor related. Take a look at Glen's beginner's tips, they are quick chapters on important aspects, each dealing with one particular theme. Alsheck out these videos for newcomers to straight razor shaving, then go have a look in the video subsection, where you will find hands-on video info.

On gear - there are too many to mention really, ranging in price from quite reasonable to rather expencive. You will need a strop, I'd recommend getting a good one, but not an expencive one. Chances are you will nick it while learning. You need a brush and some shaving soap, or creme, they can be very reasonable. And finally, the razor, from new to vintage, from large and heavy to small and nimble. The size does not matter much, but make sure you get one of quality. The classifieds here and the vendors advertising on this site are all great places to pick up nice gear, so take a look and see what you like.

What an exiting time for you, this. Best of luck.
