    Talking Hello from Los Angeles!

Hello all. I recently got into DE shaving and really enjoyed it. I'm considering jumping into SR shaving in hopes of being able to get some WTG shaves that leave me with something better than the usual "meh" feeling I get from a WTG DE shave. I'm also finding the idea of getting into the art of honing very appealing. I haven't been able to stop visiting this site and B&B for the last few weeks. I've also watched an absurd amount of videos on straight razor shaving and honing. I never thought that shaving could be anything more than a rough, choppy, and sometimes bloody chore... let alone a hobby.

Just checking in and introducing myself. Hopefully soon I'll be able to will myself to put about $250 for a razor, strop and 4000/8000 combo stone. Until then, I shall continue to research and learn.

    MisterSensitive,

Welcome to SRP. Pleased to have you aboard.

Consult the SRP wiki. It contains lots of useful information and tips about wet shaving and straight razor shaving in particular.

    Welcome to SRP.
As stated above, check out the Wiki, it is indeed a place full of knowledge.
A couple of fine places to start can be found in my sig-line.
Anything you wonder about, just ask. This place has quite a few very knowledgeable and friendly people who will assist you along the learning curve.

Finally, check out the classifieds for good deals on shave ready razors.

    Good luck

Welcome aboard! Good to see another Angeleno here. What part of the city are you in? A suggestion here...you don't need a stone this early in the game. If your SR arrives shave ready, it will be a number of months before it needs honing. You'll have your hands full just mastering the steep learing curve that comes with SR shaving. I would suggest purchasing your SR from either the Classifieds here @ SRP or over at whippeddog.com. You can get a great one there for about $30 or so. Larry (the owner, AKA LarryAndro here @ SRP) also sells a great beginners stropping set for less than $20. All you really need now is a brush and a good soap/cream, and perhaps some aftershave. All told, you'll probably spend a little over $100, rather than the $250 you were planning on. Any questions, ask away!
