    Default Hello everyone

Hi from Eventhorizon,if your wondering why Eventhorizon, it is the point at which there is no return from a black hole.I like Physics! Anyway great forum.
I to have just started shaving with a straight razor,Iv'e bought a (Dovo Bismarck black) an absolutely beautiful razor,an Edwin Jagger badger hair brush,Prima Rindleder leather strop and Taylor of old Bond street shaving cream, lemon and lime.
The razor first seemed a little blunt but as iv'e used it and stropped it it seems to have got better.Or maybe my technique has got a little better, but I will be looking to buy a honing stone shortly,so any advice on what gritt 5000 or 8000 and technique would be appreciated.

I seem to be looking forward to every shave these days, unlike when I was using a safety razor.
I think It must have something to do with using your skill and having a bit of pride in the job you do,it was such a chore using my Gillette. This has put happiness in a place where there wasn't.
The left hand still needs some work though, but I'm sure I'll get there.
By the way thank you for the competition and all who donated, and hears to luck.

I'd say hold off on the hone until your technique gets better. Its one less variable to worry about. Send the razor to a member to be properly sharpened, depending on where you bought it. Classified section under member services has plenty to choose from, in that regard. Best of luck, and happy shaving!

Thanks for the advice I'll keep stropping for a while then see what happens.
I bought it brand new shave ready from a great little shop called THE BEAR SHOP in Cardiff.
