    Default Hello from Gorgeous Georgia

I'm a 46yo retired fireman. I've had an antique straight razor my mother gave me years ago and have always wanted to use it. She also, around the same time gave me a Rolls Razor that I've been using regularly now for about 6 months and I love it. I recently got the desire to break the straight out and figure it out. Since I found SRP I now have enough knowlege to feel like a beginner. As soon as my hone gets here I'm going to give her a whirl.

Very cool. It is nice using an item with sentimental value. Pics?
I would still suggest sending your razor off for its first honing.

    ronthefireman,

Welcome to SRP. Happy to have you aboard.

Before you begin using the hone you just purchased, follow Gerrit's advice and get your antique razor, with sentimental value, honed by one of the SRP members who offer honing services. That will avoid future tears. Honing is an art quite distinct from straight razor shaving. Believe me, you will have your hands full learning proper stropping and shaving technique before you ever get to honing a razor.

    Just my 2 cents.

    Take care--and smooth shaving.

As soon as I figure out how to post pics I'll send some. And I believe I'll take your advice and send the straight to Lynn for a good honing. Prechate it.
