Thanked: 0Hello New to straight razor shaving
Hello-
I just started shaving with a barber blade a couple of days ago. I bought a very cheap raor with a disposiable blade. And now am looking to find a "Real" one. Any ideas. I was olny able to find more expencive ones, but there gift set that come with everything for around $200.
well befor i found the advice on starting with just the sideburn area and moving on from there. I just shaved my whole face right form the getgo. Did fairely well. I may let my stubble grow and start over slowely. but i did manage to get a decent shave regardless.

Dude, I'm so, like, if you've already done it, and not too badly, then why not continue? Ultimately, you're the one shaving your own face and if you felt you could do it then why not? I saw the advice to start slowly, too. That didn't stop me from shaving as much as I wanted to. (Everything but under the chin for my first time.) I didn't have any large cuts or persistent blood spotting. My razor burn faded away within about two hours, too. Advice is good, but adhered to in an unthinking manner may set yourself back unnecessarily. That and it decreases the number of "extra-fun" newbie posts!

Thanked: 275For inexpensive razors, try the "Classifieds" here, some of the vendor's sites (Holli4Pirating has some low-priced blades recently), and:
Whipped Dog Straight Razor Sales
You can get a sharp vintage razor and new strop for $50 - $60 if you look around those sites. IMHO, you can't find usable gear for much less than that.
SRD, for new razors and equipment, is a favored source; it helps that Lynn (one of the owners) runs this site, and has been very helpful to many of us.
Stay away from eBay until you know more.
