    Default From Denmark

    Hi everyone

Finally i got the time to look closer at my shavings atm i use gilette as so many others, but not without problems though.

When i use a regular shaver i often get very red and irritated skin, not to mention a ingrown hair a few times a year.

The reason i got here, was that i read an article from a barber that claimed that when one have learned to use a straight razor, then those problems wouldnt be as bad, since this razor is a lot sharper. dont know if any of you can tell me if this is true or not, still ike the idea of a straight razor though

Well im from Denmark, and dont know any barbers nearby me, but i am going to Chicago for 3 weeks soon, and i have considered getting an appointment at a barber there, just to try the feel of the straight razor, if i like it, i need to find a shop to buy what i need.

Im allready sharpening kitchen knifes, and can get to an amazing sharpnes (im a food geek), and just ordered new stones to get delivered to my hotel (sharpton glasstones 3000 and 8000 grit) so i got some of the equipment allready (i know its completely different kind of sharpening)

Well i think that pretty much told what im here for

    Welcome,
It sounds like you have a plan. If you enjoy the straight shave and decide to take it up, my advice would be, to purchase a shave ready razor. Spend time learning to shave, before attempting any honing.

    Welcome neighbor

    Sounds like a good plan.
Try to find a barber to get a feel for the whole experience.
Do keep in mind though that most barbers use disposable blades for their straight razors.
This is due to health issues, or so the various authorities claim.
A real straight razor is a bit different than the disposable ones.

There are plenty of videos of people shaving with straights out there.
In fact, there is a Danish guy who has made quite a few, check him out
He goes by the name the_pastor. Here is his profile on SRP

Perhaps you could even shoot him a PM and pick his brains a bit ?

Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years....

Now i have gotten closer to a perfect shave i started with some art of shave products, a small starter kit and a shaving soap so i can feel the difference between soap and cream, deffenitly love the soap, but it is harder to get lathered perfect, but this makes my gillette shaver so much more comftable

I have now made an order at SRD for one of their wet shaving kits, lightly modified so the things suits what i think i will like, even got me a DMT to flatten my sharpton glasstones.

Now I'm just waiting for it to show up at the hotel here in Chicago, but i don't think i will do my first shaving with the straight razor until I'm back home in chicago, i will test it for sharpness though and the feel.
