Thanked: 0Josh from Denver
Hey all this is my first post here. I'm looking to get a close smooth shave and get rid of the ingrown hairs and razor bumps.... (African American btw )
After reading over everything. I think I want to start with a merkur safety blade, pure badger brush and check out the rest tomorrow at the Art of Shaving store in Cherry creek tomorrow. Thoughts?
Thx for the great info.

Welcome!
I work with a lot of black men who have taken an interest in my straight shaving in the hopes it will help with razor bumps and the like. To date I've not been able to actually get them to lay a sharpened hunk of steel to their faces, but they're still interested in the possiblities...
Perhaps if your experiences are positive I can let them read and follow your advice.
Looking forward to your posts.

Too funny, I will be in that area today with a buddy visiting the zoo which is not too far from AoS.
A co-worker who is African American also uses a DE. I cannot remember what kind of blade he uses but for him the pitch of the bar is key and he seems to like the adjustable DE's a lot. He told me once that a straight razor shave is superb but he couldn't bother with the cost and maintenance since he had several other hobbies however, he really did enjoy the straight shave but noted that prep and a good edge is required all of the time.
I live just south of the Denver area and there are many more of us in the vicinity. If you have any questions just ask.

Josh, welcome to SRP! As you can see, if you need anything just ask.
It is easier to fool people than to convince them they have been fooled. Twain

Hi Josh,
Welcome to SRP. Cannot wait to get you converted to using a straight razor. I too started out using a DE and made the jump soon after. I do use the DE still when I am running late in the morning or on vacation.
If you want, send me a PM and I will mail you a few different brands of DE blades to try out. IIRC, AOS is a bit spendy for their DE blades and only carry one brand.

Thanked: 0Thanks all!!!! I couldn't get to the AOS tonight. I guess I'll go tomorrow. Now I'm on the search for some good creams and oils. Time to do some searches.
