    Red face Hello From Minneapolis

    Hi Gents,
I have been shaving with a DE for a few months now and was interested in giving straight razors a try. I found some at an antique store (a Dubl Duck Satinedge and a Griffon Cutlery Works) and googled "honemeister minneapolis." The first result was a thread on SRP of someone asking the same question. That's how I found RandyDance. He lives in St. Paul, so two days ago (the 15th) I went over to his house to learn how to hone and strop. He honed my Griffon and showed me what I need to do to restore my Dubl Duck. The blade still has some life left in it (50 years by Randy's reckoning) but the scales were shot and need to be replaced. He even gave me a strop to use until I can get one of my own! I'm anxious to give this baby a try!

You can't do any better than working with Randy, he did the same for me several years ago.

Welcome to straights. I want to chime and and say I too have had nothing but good experiences with anyone I have communicated with here on SRP. Always willingness to help. You are going to do fine. Never look back.

Me too, he leaves a trail of razor addicts behind him where ever he goes.

Carl, let me know how that Griffon shaves. It was good to meet you and your always welcome to stop over.

Meeting the new guys and helping them get started are some of the rewards of being a member of SRP.

    Thanks guys,

Our Randy is quite an accomplished razor enabler. SRP ought to have some sytem in place by now for awarding something like gold stars to our most accomplished enablers. On a regional basis maybe something on the order of gold stars with platinum traction bars would be in order. For here on the upper midwest tundra this could celebrate accomplishment, monsoons, and blizzards all in one shiny, albeit low carbon, fell swooping acknowledgement.

Welcome! You're very lucky to be off to such a good start.

I've got a Griffon Carbo-Magnetic that hones and shaves like a champ. It was my first well-informed razor purchase.
