    Hello a,

Yes, razors from Superior are guaranteed shave ready. Don't turn up your nose at the Dovo Best Quality; they're just as sharp as the Bismarks. Not quite as pretty, nor as ergonomic. There is a 6/8 half-hollow in black, though. It's significantly less expensive than the Bismarcks.

If I didn't say so before, a round tip is better for starting out than a square or spike tip.

    Hi guys-
I pulled the trigger on the Dovo Bismark from Superior. I was surprised to see he had them in stock. If he calls me and tells me he doesnt have them in stock i will go w/ the Best Quality one. I just really like the look of the blade on the Bismark. I will keep you posted. I also bought from amazon some merkur blades for my parker shavette to give them a try, i was/am using shark blades.

    Hello All-
Its been a while since i posted up here, but I did finally get the Dovo I mentioned above what a beautiful razor. I am not sure how shave ready it was, not really feeling it like i do w/ the Shavette I have. I stropped it a couple times, I will try it again this weekend. I got the strop on ebay w/ a bunch of cheap razors, the strop probably isnt that great either. But I will not give up. I did use the shavette a couple times and litterally took two big chunks out of my chin and cheek. They finally healed up so over the weekend i will give the Dovo another try. I will try to watch some of the videos as well. I will keep you posted of my progress. Thanks for all the input.

Did you buy it from Straight Razor Designs? If you did, I'd be willing to bet that it is/was shave ready. If you didn't, where did you get it from?

I didnt get it from SRD, they didnt have the one i wanted in stock. I got it from Superior. I called the guy up and he said it was shave ready. I tried it again this morning and i am getting a much better shave from the shavette. I am thinking it wasnt sharpened and honed before he sent it out. Maybe I should send it to SRD to be sharpened and honed unless i can find someone local to do it. It can cut the hair off my arm which I've seen as a "test" but it "drags". I have a stop I and have been stropping it, probably not the best strop but i think it serves the purpose. Just not getting the close shave i would expect from a shave ready Dovo as compared to the shavette which is crazy sharp or at least the Shark blades I am using are. I would expect that based on what I read the the Straight Edge blade would be comparable to the shavette blades.

    Thoughts?

I will be out of town for about a week, but I have an offer for you. Send it to me. I'll shave with it and let you know if it's shave ready or not. If it's not, I'll make it shave ready. You just cover the postage.
