Hello from Louisiana
I've been shaving with a DE razor for about a year and a half now. About year ago I went into an Art of Shaving store in Dallas, where I got my first straight razor shave. That day I bought a shavette and I've been using it off and on for the last year or so, usually on Sunday's when I can take my time. Just within the last couple of months I had the urge to take the next step and get a real straight razor. I was in Dallas last week, so ai made a point to go back by the Art of Shaving store and purchase a straight razor. So far it hasn't been too bad. My shaves are nowhere near BBS, but I think they will get there in due time. However, I'm not sure it's cutting most of the time, especially around the chin area. I see hair on the blade but yet I still see just as much still on my face, almost like the razor is only getting some of the are. I know my technique is not sure where I would like it to be, but it seems like the razor should be sharper and cut the hairs a lot easier. Just as when I started out with shaving with a DE, I do understand patience, patience, patience.

The AOS(Dovo) razor needs honing, the factory edge isn't exactly shave-ready.
Welcome to SRP!

This is a lesson I've learned the hard way. My original intention was to purchase a straight razor from Vintage Blades, but since I was in Dallas I couldn't resist the temptation. Lesson well learned.

Glad to have you here. I'm in Baton Rouge, and served 12 years in the Corps.
I'd suggest buying a shave ready razor from the classifieds here and sending your AOS razor off for a honing. I assume you've got a strop, etc?I strop my razor with my eyes closed.

Glad to be here. I'm up in Bossier City. I'm fastly approaching 25 years in my beloved Corps. I know this is going to sound like pure blasphemy, but I was born and raised here in Louisiana but I'm a Nebraska fan.
I am going to follow your advice and send the razor off to get honed, but until then it's back to shaving with my DE's and the shavette. The sunday morning shave was rather unpleasant when I attempted to shave ATG. After the first stroke I quick put the SE down and finished the shave off with a DE. As I stated in an earlier post, lesson learned.

Yo, I'm across the river from you in Shreveport. If you'd like, I can hone the razor for you, and I can show you a few tips and tricks to help you get a good start. Welcome to SRP
