    Default Hey

    Hello everyone!

I've been browsing the community forums and classifieds for a while now and decided to join in on the fun, even though my razor hasn't even arrived yet...
but that's just a matter of time

it's an ebay clonker (enzo england classic) due to buying before doing some research and finding this place, so in a few weeks time I might be on the lookout for a shiny good one depending on how well it hones up and holds it's edge, and how soon my first pay-check comes in...

though worst case scenario, it's a good one to practise honing straights with.
Sofar i'm only experienced with honing knives, most of which up to the point where they pass the hanging hair test.. especially my pet opinel nr 8

I am, however, on the lookout for a naniwa 10k stone or equivalent.

I'm also wondering if it's worth it to purchase some honing paste and a 2nd strap for it in the near future, or if there's no point in that just yet...

    Welcome to SRP!

I hope you get a pro to hone your ebay razor.
A truly shave ready razor is the only way to get a good start in this game.

A 2nd strop and some CrO sounds good to me.
That way you can maintain your edge, and keep it going for quite some time.

With a 10K down the road you would basically be set to maintain you professional honed razors for long periods of time.

Good luck, and do ask if we can help at all

I'm not sure if the ebay one is worth getting a pro to hone it.. seeing as the honing will cost the same as the razor did, if not more :P
like I said, it's very likely to be used as honing practise, or movement practise when dulled...

I just need to save up to get me a decent one from the classifieds here before I try a real shave so I don't disappoint myself when trying it for the first time.

If you got a good price on a good razor that doesn't preclude you from getting it honed by a pro!!! there was a time when most good henckles or boker's or W&B could be had for a song on EBAY. Your first shave probably will disappoint. Not because of the razor but your technique. Be aware of that and know it's all about practice and learning things like angle and technique. If you're a knife honing person I would recommend hard pressed felt or balsa on a wood base with Cr Ox or diamond spray for touch ups. That really shouldn't be needed for awhile if professionally honed. Get a good strop from SRD with the webbed fabric second piece and you should be good for a few months if that is your only razor. This hobby is addicting though so It probably won't take long for your razors to multiply!!!

Alright, do you have any suggestions for a good honer near belgium so shipping costs won't make me as they often do?

    Thanks

Check out Rupert in the Classifieds. he is in the UK. Or do a post and ask for belgium help. Lots of people here form that area.

    Alright thanks

can't wait for it to arrive so I can get an idea of how it feels in my hand..

I've also ordered a shavette (my god that's a terrible name :P) with derby blades to try out shaving or as backup while the proper one is off to be honed.

    Thanks for the great welcome

    After consulting the almighty Lynn,

i've decided not to get the enzo honed, but am now on the lookout for a decent shave ready beginner razor instead..
1/2 or 1/4 grind and 6/8 size is what i'm looking for at the moment, if anyone's got offers going, please let me know!
