Welcome to SRP, Chris!
Dont' worry. I can grow a "circle beard", but can't grow a full beard to save my life either. It hasn't stopped me from having the time of my life using a straight razor.

Welcome form a fellow Brit.
As for your initial set up Neil Miller at The Strop Shop is the fellow to speak to about strops and shave ready vintage razors. While Steve Dempster atThe Invisible Edge sells modern Dovos and Theirs Issard razors as well as some vintage ones. Its also worth checking out the classifieds here.
All the best and enjoy yourself.
