    Default Hello from Jacksonville, NC

    Hello to all,
I have been introduced to straight razor shaving by a good friend of mine. He actually sent me my first razor. So far I have the razor, brush, the Poor Man Strop Kit, and some Proraso preshave cream, shave cream, and after shave. I have received everything in the mail today and starting my research on how to begin. I guess first would be to get my strop ready but the gentleman's instruction have me a little lost. Not that it's rocket science, just that I'm not sure which is which and the instructions kind of jump from here to there and get confusing. I have the strop, the hanging hook, neatsfoot oil, chromium oxide, iron oxide and a block of wood with the oxides already applied (one on each side). I believe the block is what is called the balsa?
I will be researching and if I have any questions, I will be sure to post them in the proper forum pages. Can't wait to get started!

    Welcome to SRP.

Firstly, don't apply anything on your daily strop.
Keep that clean and strop on it before each shave.
When a touch-up is needed, then use the pasted balsa paddle strop.

I recommend you read the beginner's tips on the frontpage here.
Lots of great info to be found there.
Also, check out the video section, stropping and shaving videos galore

Good luck, and keep us posted on your progress.
We will help out in any way we can.

Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years....

Welcome please let us know how things go. The best advice I can give is if it does not feel right stop. If you push it you may get a nick / cut.
