Thread: Hello from 'swinging' London

Hello fellow SRP members,

I'm sure it's been said before, but I'll say it again - thank you to everyone who's contributed information on the subject of straight razor shaving, especially those who have written in the Wiki, for helping me through my first straight razor shave tonight.

I've been lurking for a couple of weeks, amazed at the amount of information there is about straight razor shaving - almost too much!

Well my package from the shaving shop arrived today so I decided tonight is the night and used the Puma 88 I'd bought off of Ebay. It took a long while to strop it to an approximation of passing the HHT.

Armed with some Poraso Pre-shave cream and lather from Michel's Wool Fat soap, I began the assault on my 4 day growth, alum block on standby.

I'm happy to report that things went fairly well, with no cuts and the whole face shaved fairly close. I'm by no means particularly hairy so it wasn't a long ordeal - probably just over 30mins. It did feel a little awkward at first, but it's amazing how quickly one is able to adapt and gain some confidence.

I would probably have peeled half my face off without the advice on here, so thank you again for being such a great resource!

Woo Hoo!!!! Great job! I still am about 1 hour per shave after half a year! Welcome and it only gets better (with perhaps the occasional hiccup).
