    Welcome! I am also a "Pacific Northwesterner." Perhaps you already have the other equipment required for learning to shave with a straight razor, but the shopping list in the beginner section is very helpful with knowing what to get. I would recommend you buy the Van der Hagen starter kit that comes with a brush, a soap puck, and a handy bowl to keep the soap in. It is inexpensive and a good place to start.     I'm sorry that I missed this thread. Welcome.
    If you ever need help feel free to PM me and if you get a chance to drive to Yakima I would be more than happy to walk you through anything you want to learn. We have a regular meet in Spokane every year, but you just missed it. The meet is usually the last weekend in September.
    I may have another mini-meet in Yakima this spring or if others want to invade my shop I can arrange.
