Default Hello, I'l like to Introduce Myself to the Forum

    Hello Everyone,
I'm John and I live in Boston, MA USA. I've always had an interest in Straight Edge Razors. My first memories of straight edge razors are of my visits to the barber shop. I was 5 or 6 years old I remember waiting for my turn at Mario's Barber Shop in the North End of Boston. I'd watch the barber shaving his customer. When it was my turn I'd sit in the big old leather chair and he'd cut my hair and then he'd shave the back of my neck. The hot lather, the barber stropping the razor and then the shave and I was done until my next visit. My dad had an Estas Straight Edge Razor. It looked vintage when I was a kid. I would always ask to see it. He wouldn't let me touch it he was afraid I'd get cut. Finally I was old enough to hold it. I was very careful not to get cut.
Now it's mine and it's my avatar.
I hope to learn more about the straight edge razors history, manufactures, care and proper use.
    John

    Hello coachschaller,
I'll do that; I'll read, read, read. I honestly don't know anything about the Estas Straight Edge Razor. What makes it special to me is that it was my dad's. I guess I'll see if I can learn anything about it like how old it is and what the handle is made of.
Thank you, coachschaller, for your welcome note,
    John

I recommend checking the wiki section of this site. I'm sure you'll find some usefully info on you razor there. In addition to reading if you can't find what your looking for don't be afraid to ask. I'm fairly new to this site as well, I've always received great feedback and advice when I've asked. You'll find everyone here is very generous with their knowledge.

Oh and welcome the SRP! I'm sure you find as I have this place is an invaluable resource when starting out. Not to mention it's extremely entertaining!

    Hi John,
That's a cool story. There's a ridiculous amount of information here, imHo there's no need to look anywhere else for information on straight razor shaving......until you start buying stuff......which will start soon if it hasn't already......
Stranger, if you passing meet me and desire to speak to me, why should you not speak to me? And why should I not speak to you?

    Hello Bottomfeeder,
I haven't had much time since I joined to go exploring through the site, but I intended to do so today.
I'm not sure if you can answer this, but my daughter wants to buy her boy friend a shaving set: safety razor, blades, brush, stand and cup with a cake of shaving soap. Can you recommend a brand and or store?
    Thank you,
    John

    Hello coachschaller,
Thank you for the information. I will take a look at these sites and forward them to her too. I know she wants to buy new and spend between $200. and $300. for a nice set. I know there are much more expensive sets, but her resources are limited.
    Thank you again,
    John
