Thanked: 0Hello from Anaheim, CA
My name is James and I shave my face and head. I got tired of using cartridge blades and after a little searching bought my first DE safety razor(Merkur 34C). I love shaving again! As a matter of fact I have discovered I love the whole process. I have been having fun experimenting with all the great smelling pre shave creams, shave creams and soaps, and after shave lotions and balms. I just purchased my first straight razor and strop set from SRD. I have not had my first straight razor shave yet but, it will happen in the next few days for sure. I have enjoyed this journey and am lookng forward to swapping stories with like minded folks.

Thanked: 1936There are a few head shavers hanging around here & most of us use a straight for the face. You made a wise choice on your first razor and strop...you should also consider Lynn's DVD as it's chocked full of great information from one of the most knowledgeable gentlemen around. Just take your time and learn to shave the face first, then move to the noggin' is my recommendation. Feel free to pm me if I can be of assistance.

Thanked: 0Thanks Scott,
I actually bought a set of DOVO "Best Quality" razors. A 5/8 and a 6/8 to see which size I like the best. I also purchased an english bridle/hard pressed wool felt strop, the DVD, some camelia oil and the leather 7 day sheath. I haven't had the time to watch the DVD yet but, I can't wait to sit and enjoy it. I will be definately just shaving my face in the beginning until I get some experience. Thanks for the advice it's always appreciated.
