Hi Dan,
You're about to have some real fun. You've probably got at least 1/2 the technique down already - lather making, some familiarity w/ facial topography/lay of the beard. Obviously you'll want to spend some time on the 'first shave' threads. They really are good. Maybe the most valuable time might be spend reading & practicing stropping. The best thing I've seen on it was Glen's 3/11 beginner's tips thread

I was horrible at it, and many other noobs are also. Its pretty common to dull your blade from poor stropping.
There's a google map page on this site that shows the location of nearby members. You might find that getting together w/ other str8 shavers would greatly acellerate your learning curve. If your travels ever bring you near Portland, OR, PM me and we can connect. You can try any and all of my gear.
