Thread: College student in Indiana!

Hi, I'm Cameron Kingsbury and I have just completed my shaving setup. I just turned 21 and for my birthday my father bought me a Dovo Best Quality 6/8" Half hollow razor. I'm very excited to use it now and I will do once I get back to school where my strop and all else is located.

I'm doing a "No-shave November" thing and keeping all the hair on my face but just shaving my neck. This scares me a bit with it being the first thing I will shave with my first straight razor, but I'm very excited. I have done much research and I think I am mostly ready to go I just need to figure out what my technique will be like on the first shave.

Sounds like you are all set - I assume your razor is honed? It is a very exciting moment, that first straight razor shave, and I envy you the experience.

One bit of advice. With respect to technique, try doing what feels natural to you to start with. You can end up tying yourself up in knots trying to implement all the things you read about on forums. It is far better to let the technique find you, rather than trying to fit yourself into other's. Remember, all the advice here is well meaning and informed, but can never take the place of common sense or your own personal experience.
