Thread: Checking In From West Virginia

Hi All. New guy checking in from West Virginia. Totally new to wet shaving and straights. Plan to jump right in with straight razor shaving. Tired of paying ridiculous prices for cartridges and only getting mediocre shaves in return. Been researching for a few weeks now, but still have awhile before I begin my journey. I typically wear a short goatee and mustache, but this time of year I grow out a full beard. I figured it would be easier to learn the straight without having to try and cut in my beard at the same time. I plan to go ahead and get a brush, bowel and several samples of soaps so I can find what I like and practice making lather while still shaving with my cartridge for the time being. When the time comes I'll be getting the sight unseen deal from Larry at whippeddog.com for my first razor and strop. Looking forward to learning a bunch more in the coming weeks!!!

I graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park back in '04. I'm a former Terp athlete (baseball) and my wife and I have season football tickets and make the occasional basketball game. Been a rough year to say the least. Moved to West Virginia just this past April.

One of my best friends lives in West Virginia up in the northern panhandle peeling Ohio apart from Pennsylvania. I've tried to get him into straight razors; nothin' doin'.
