i'm thinking i should go with one of the "sight unseen" deals from whipped dog as a cheap starter, along with soap and a brush of course. once i learn what i like maybe i'll upgrade to a nicer razor? the deal at whipped dog seems great, especially including the strops to start. the soap and brush are both vegan options i found online- the brush a synthetic omega from amazon and the soap from honeybee soaps.

    Hi and welcome

Just a note on shaving brushes, I like horse hair (I have a Vie Long horse hair brush) which is collected while grooming rather than from a dead animal. I don't know how that sits with your girlfriend but if its OK it broadens the options.
    Regards
    Nic

If she's Vegan for the environment can you go vintage strop and brush? Far better for the earth than making new plastics ever will be.

i hadn't thought of it but i like that vintage idea. i'll have to talk to her about that, as she is oddly picky about things, but thanks for the suggestion. the horse hair idea too, hopefully that doesn't creep her out.

it's christmas season, so it's hard to justify spending on things like a straight razor, soap, brush and strops. but then again, it's christmas season, so hopefully i won't have to. hopefully i can get started sooner than later.

Just bought one of the sight unseen deals from whippeddog, two omega brushes, one boar and one synthetic, and 3 pucks of vegan shaving soap as well as 3 little plastic bowl/ containers to store them. Looking forward to getting started, did I miss anything? I think this is a pretty good starting set.
