Newb in Perth
Hi guys,
My names Rob and I'm a west Aussie, finally getting into cut throat shaving properly. I've been on the periphery for ages but it took me a while to stump up the investment to give it a good go.
I've been using a rubbish Wahl shavette style razor for a while, and had the barber give me a few shaves to get an idea.
I've just made the plunge and bought a dovo 5/8 hollow with rounded ends, and a ruprazor filly strop. Chasing down the last few bit and pieces and waiting for the srp DVD to arrive!
I'm currently looking at:
Mitchells wool fat soap
Pinaud clubman aftershave
Styptic stick
Any comments / tips for young players? Any other gear I've forgotten?
Cheers

Welcome to SRP, Rob.
Good to see another Aussie on board.
Mitchells Wool Fat soap is my 'go to' when I'm shave testing razors 'cause I know it better than any of my others and I can get a consistent lather time after time.
I don't use styptic (even though I have some) 'cause I've decided not to cut myself.....(yeah right).
Sounds like you have the rest sorted out.
Read lots, ask lots of questions if you can't find the answers in the WIKI or other posts (the search bar is your friend), try and catch up with members in your area and don't forget to hang on and enjoy the ride.Hang on and enjoy the ride...

I have an alum block and stiptic pencil, and hardly ever use the pencil. the block is less potent and handy for small cuts, or even just testing for razorburn to see how your shave went. I would highly recommend getting one.

Thanked: 1587Hello Rob. Welcome to SRP
Sounds like you are pretty good to go. You might want a second razor at some point, but for now it sounds like you are OK. Did whomever you bought the Dovo off say it would be shave ready? Brand new Dovos are not often what many of us would consider ready to use straight from the factory.
Good Luck,
James.<This signature intentionally left blank>

Thanks for the info. Does anyone know if the MWF contains Sodium Laurel Sulphate or it's derivatives?
I'll have a look at the alum block, I hadn't considered something for razor burn.
The razor is from johnmrson in the vendors area, and he's giving it a hone. Can't wait. I'm sure a collection will mysteriously start to form eventually..

RAD? Razor acquisition disease?

Razor Acquisition Disorder. That's what it is called politely, but, yes, it is a disease and one of the best out there.
