Joed, thanks for the tips.I have been successful(I think???) as far as technique goes,if i may call it that.Nice smooth shaves and not the first drop of blood. There a few areas on the side of my neck that i can not seem to contort my arm/wrist to reach. That prevents a 100% ATG shave in that area, but i am very pleased overall. As far as honing,i would love to learn it,of course, but i dont want to cause any damage to my razor.Repairable or not.I agree I need to look into getting someone to hone it for me.I was hoping to have it done local,so maybe i could learn something, but no such luck today.Oh well, anyways. Thanks for all the tips and advice.I really appreciate the help. Oh,I almost forgot...ok,heres where i show my ignorance. The ONLY soap i could fing local today was some Williams mug shaving soap.I assume you just drop the whole cake of soap in the mug and just go to town with the brush, huh? For A buck and a half i doubt this is the soap legends are made of,but it is all i could come up with local. And the smell is horrible...i thought my brush was rotten!Back to ebay it is.No offense to SRP,but i am really starting to grow tired of the interweb.Sigh...Thanks Again!

Welcome ! Looks like your off to a great start that Dovo is an excellent razor to learn straight razor shaving with. Dont waste your time or energy on Honing yet . Like hav said get your shaving technique down . In the meantime send the razor out for professional honing it will cost you no more than 20 bucs but will save you a crappy first shave. You can look in the classifieds here to find someone local to you. Straight Razor designs.com & vintage blades offer the service for 20 bucs plus shipping.
Good luck and good shaving!

Welcome to SRP.
If I were you I'd return this set (they take returns) and buy one from straightrazordesigns. Why? Because you'll get properly honed razor (yes, the one you bought is not), additional honing down the road, and products we're all familiar with and have vetted.
Also pay attention to AFDavis11's posts and whenever you get a chance to meet him in person don't miss it.

I agree,I kinda took a stab in the dark when I bought this set.I'd have to say that I probably(read:definitely) over paid since the razor(dull),mug and brush are most likely the only items of any value here.If I had only found this forum 2 days earlier!OH well, gotta make the best outta what I got.
