Thanked: 0hello fellow crazy shaving folks!
hello gang,
just started in the straight razor shaving side of the street. I've been a DE shaver for about 3 years and have been contemplating the straight shave.
Well I finally broke down and purchased a Boker 5/8 with micarta scales from SRD and a red latigo strop. So far I've nicked myself and the strop! You can roll the razor over the spine but if your still moving the razor in that direction you'll zamboni blade stop on the strop! Not good.
still working on my technique,
-stropping on the herringbone side for 15 passes and the leather for 20. I haven't used any chromium oxide yet.
My first shave was better than my second. On the second I zamboni'd my face with the lack of depth perception on the blade approach to my face.
I'm not worried, I had a touch of a learning curve on the DE education too.
Well here's to ya!

Welcome! I think the progression from DE to straight is the way to go.
