Good Evening
Hello,
As this the Member Introductions sub-forum I imagine it goes without saying that I am new here. However, what does not go without saying is that I have never shaved with a straight razor and as of right now I am still researching to determine my best bang for my buck before I make my first purchase. Fortunately I stumbled upon SRP before making a questionable ebay purchase. At this point I think I am leaning toward a Dovo razor due to the cost to value ratio for quality entry level razors, but at the same time I am very open to recommendations from the seasoned members/shavers. I am already grateful to SRP for "saving" me from making the mistake of using a factory direct "shave ready" razor. I look forward to conducting further research and participating in conversations here on SRP.

If you are open to quality vintage at a great price you may want to peruse the classifieds here or in the vendor's section as there are some great razors for beginners.
There is nothing wrong with a new Dovo though and right now you should check out Straight razor designs. They have high quality stuff, know how to hone and, I believe, right now you can get free honing for life.

I was looking at the site earlier this evening and was thinking that it sounded like a great deal. I also like that they offer the montly wet shaving kits for 20% off. Thanks for the input.

Welcome aboard. One of the lower priced Dove razors is a fine place to start or to end up. Don't let the low price mislead you as these are fine shaving blades. The Dove Best Quality or the Dove Special are a very good buy. Once again welcome and good luck.

Well, I went and did it... ordered the Dovo Pearlex Inox 5/8" Straight Razor Set from SRD along with the World of Straight Razor dvd. It just seemed to good of a deal to pass up, 20% off the set plus free lifetime honing. Can't wait.

Hello hloyallen,
My friend Randy is spot on. You hit the jackpot. Every straight razor collection should have the Dovo "Pearlex." It's a lovely razor, and since it is honed by the master himself, Lynn, you're all set. If you need help, ask away and you'll have all the help and encouragement in the world you need. We're delighted to have you here.
Stay well.

Welcome to SRP hloyallen! As the others have said, it sounds like your set. The WIKI is a great source of information, but don't be afraid to ask questions. SRP has a lot of great gents who are full of sage advice. Obie mentored me when I first started (even though I'm in Alabama and he's in Wisconsin), and it made all the difference in the world. I clearly remember holding my first razor, a DOVO Bismarck from SRD, and thinking "there's no way I'm putting this sharp blade to my face", but after exchanging a quick PM (private message) with Obie he skillfully calmed me down and was a source of endless encouragement.
Good luck! Let us know when you get your gear - we're eager to help in any way we can. Greg
