Thanked: 0New Member from the Boston Area
Hello Fine Sirs!
My name is Chris and I am a new member from just north of Boston in Revere, MA. After a few years of getting some straight razor shaves in a Barber chair, I figured it was time for me to give it a try myself. So after some research (and remarkably not finding this site in my research), I made a purchase of a brand new TI carbon steel blade with the stainless steel scales (not sure the model exactly). So far some good, I have done about six shaves without any major blooed letting. I have done some stropping as well. I am using the brush with a quality shaving soap from Art of Shaving as well as pre shave oil and after shave.
After doing a lot of reading here, I am looking forward to making some progress. I am still weak in using my left hand...cannot fgure out a good grip for an ATG shave and a few other pitfalls so far, but I am looking to become comefortable with a quality WTG method before jumping into something different.
I have read that my shave ready razor may in fact not be shave ready here! GASP! I was wondering a couple of things....
1) Where can I get it properly honed?
2) How long does the process usually take and how long will I be with out my razor?
Thanks so much!
Chris

Thanked: 1936For a properly honed razor, contact a few guys here: Member Services - Straight Razor Place Classifieds
How long does it take? According to the honer's workload and available time to hone the razors & of course mail. Most honers use USPS Priority Flat boxes, so you would be looking at a ballpark of 10-14 days considering it is so close to Christmas. Shipping is what takes the majority of the time. Contact a few of the honers and go with one you feel comfortable with.
Please feel free to ask any question as the only stupid question is the one NOT asked. If I can be of assistance, please feel to contact me via PM any time.
