Greetings from a refugee from the Dark Side
I was captured by the quantity of posting at that other place but the ignorance and fanboy nature of the place finally got to me. Hopefully, the atmosphere is a bit more enlightened here.
I'm a safety razor guy with one modern and two vintage razors (EJ, Super Speed, Aristocrat) and a few brushes (EJ Super Badger, Omega, Semogue, Vulfix 404, and, of course, a VdH). I like Astra SPs and Walmart Wilkinsons and my weakness seems to come in the area of soaps and creams. I have no preference between the two but I definitely like Cella, PdP, T&H rose cream, TOBS sandalwood, and a mess of others.
Been shaving this way on and off since the 60's but did spend many years with a Norelco during my working years. I still use it today to finish spots I don't want to repeatedly hit with ATG passes. I was told at the other place it was because I didn't know what I was doing by the *experts* there. I tried to explain it was a choice based on precisely that - experience.
Anyway, look forward to joining in from time to time here and feel very relieved to be done with the Death Star...

Thanked: 21Try not to take advice here too personally, as most people are trying to help, and most are not professional writers. Sometimes you'll get an off the cuff comment thrown in the mix. Likely less often than the other place, but it happens sometimes, intentionally and inadvertantly.

Welcome!!
I too used a DE Safety razor for many years, and used to touch it up with my electric... But those days are gone...
Strickly a straight razor user now. If you take the time to learn to use a straight, you'll never go back.
Smooth, close, no "factory blade" harshness or burn... An overall delight! A little effort for great rewards...

Thanked: 1195If it works for you then who cares what anyone else says? I haven't used an electric in years and it likely won't be used again, but who is anyone to tell you that you can not? Perhaps someday you will feel differently, but in the meantime keep doing whatever is most comfortable.
I still have my old Braun around the house, barely used, and since it was a gift I could never bring myself to throw it out. Perhaps some day I *might* pull it out and give it a go for #%it's and kicks.....
