I didn't listen to Lynn when he advised only doing the sideburns and then using something else to finish off with while you're learning!
I wish I would have as it would have saved me some pain and blood!!Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdins cave of 'stuff'.

Yup, that is good advice, I've just been doing the easy parts until I get used to and comfortable with the razor. I think it will be a few more days yet before I try to fully tackle my chin!

Trust me on this one! Give it a couple of weeks on just the cheeks, then go to under the jaw for awhile, then tackle the chin! I find the chin the hardest.
When you do get around to the chin, be sure and lather it up along with the rest of your face and keep it well lathered while shaving everything else, that will help keep the whiskers soft. Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdins cave of 'stuff'.

The shaving is going really well thanks to this site and numerous (as in tons!) of Youtube videos I've watched. I'm doing my whole face now and only nick my chin on occasion... Kind of unavoidable since I've got one of those Kirk Douglas chins, not great for shaving! I'm not getting BBS shaves yet, but that will come with time I'm sure as I'm still a newb. Excellent advice on keeping the chin well lathered, the lather seems to dry out quickly and I have to wet/reapply it, but it makes a huge difference. I've even bought another razor from the classifieds here so that I have one for when the other is sent out to be honed. I can see how collecting them could be addictive but they are kind of pricey so I think I'll stick with 2 for now. I'm also trying to use the search engine here as much as I can, I've had questions but they've probably all been asked a thousand times before so I search rather than wearing out my welcome

Thanked: 1195Glad to hear it, Stew.
And BTW, don't worry about wearing out your welcome. Questions are what the Beginners section, and this forum, are all about.
