Thanked: 0First Shave!
I have been interested in straight razors for a while, but decided that I wanted to shave with one only a couple of weeks ago. After a lot of research, I decided that I wanted to go the vintage route as opposed to buying new. For my first razor, I decided to purchase a pre-1906 11/16 T. Hessenbruch Hollow Ground, restored by Razor Emporium.
While I was anxiously awaiting the arrival of my T. Hessenbruch, I snagged a Simmons Keenkutter and a Robert Klaas on eBay. I have plans to restore both of them. Hopefully this isn't the beginning of RAD...
My first shave today went pretty well. I had a couple of nicks and some irritation, but that's part of the learning process it seems. My lathering, stopping, and shaving techniques definitely need some improvement. The sides of my face have never received a closer shave, but my upper lip and chin still have some stubble.
So long disposable razors, I'm not going to miss you.

Welcome aboard! Plenty of knowledge to be found on this fine site, so take advantage of it. The chin and upper lip are problematic for a lot of people.
Say hello to your new obsession
