Thanked: 36Hello from Central Oregon
Hello All,
Brand new to wet shaving and Straight Razor shaving. I always wanted to try it and finally dove in! I bought Lynn Abrams video first to see if it was something I would be interested in. While waiting for it, I probably watched 50 different videos on you tube, found this site, and the hook was set! By the time I got Lynn's video, I had already ordered my first shave ready Straight from Straight Razor Designs.
I got my SRD 6/8 Dovo "Special" Imitation Tortoise Shell Razor and 3" Strop set in the mail at the end of last week. I must have watched the "Pre-shave" and the "Lets Shave" portion of the video at least 15 times before getting the nerve up to put my razor into action. So far in the last few days I have three shaves under my belt and am already scouring the internet for my next razor and assorted paraphernalia purchases! Addictive somehow doesn't even begin to describe it.......
1st shave was last Friday
I sort of followed the advice the first day and just shaved the dominant side of my face WTG from the sideburn to the jawline, but then decided to throw in the weak hand side in the same area. It went absolutely smooth! I fought the desire to go further and finished up with my regular razor.
2nd Shave - Sunday Morning
I started off with the intention of sticking to the advice to take it slow and just add the cheeks on this shave. Before I knew it, I had shaved my jaw, cheeks, and entire neck with a WTG pass. I then shaved my jaw and cheeks with an XTG pass. Then I decided what the hell, and shaved my upper lip as well. Shave went pretty well. No nicks, no blood, and only slight razor burn on a small portion of the jawline. I didn't shave the upper lip area very well, but knew well enough to quit while I was ahead.
3rd Shave - This Morning
Since the last several shaves went so well, and against sound advice, I went for the glory this morning and took on the whole face! I couldn't help myself! I actually got a decent shave with minimal damage - No cuts, nicks, or blood, but a wee bit of razor burn on both sides of the chin! As I said, I got a pretty decent shave, but I now realize and understand the wisdom in taking it slow and learning one area of the face at a time. I plan on sticking with the jaw, cheeks and neck for the next several shaves and to learn how to get that "close shave" with minimal passes in those areas before going back to the upper lip and chin. I can't seem to grow facial hair fast enough!
Anyway, I just wanted to say hello and also thanks for all the great info shared here on this site. If it wasn't for the info I found here, I don't believe I ever would have made the leap onto the Straight Razor path!
Thanks again,
JC

Thanked: 36Pinklather,
Thanks! I get up to Portland every few months or so, so I will definitely give you a shout before hand and try to link up! It will probably be a few months before I even think about trying to hone one myself. Thanks again for the generous offers, I'm sure I'll be talking to you soon.

Way to go, sir. Nice Dovo. I bought a Flowing 6/8 from SRD and love the shaves I'm getting. It's a decent razor once SRD lets 'em go.
