Greetings from Queens
Hello! I finally decided to man-up and learn how to use a SR. Since I started shaving in the mid 90's it's something I've wanted to do and I'm happy to say, the fear of having a razor sharp blade to my face has subsided... a bit.
I recently purchased my first razor (PRIOR TO READING THESE FORUMS) on ebay and am anxiously awaiting it's arrival. I still need the other necessities but I figure I can use the time it takes to purchase them to get comfortable holding the blade and such.
Thanks for reading!
Jon

Thanked: 275It's time to start reading the Beginner's Wiki on this site.
Being in Queens, you're a subway ride away from the Pasteur Pharmacy (34th St, Manhattan). That seems to be a central spot for "traditional" shaving supplies. I haven't been there, but other members have.
Have fun, ask questions --

Thanks for the heads-up Charles! I will definitely be checking that out asap.
I've actually read through the beginner's wiki a few times now and have a few of the pages bookmarked ;D
Thanks again!

Welcome Joe ! Im in queens as welland theres more than a handfull of guys from NYC on here . If I can be of any help dont hesitate to ask. Make surer your blade is truly shave ready when you get it. Dont assume that it already is . That can be the difference between a great first shave and a nightmare first shave.

Thanks for the welcome Ben! Good to know there's an NYC presence on here. I'll be taking my razor to get honed to New York Shaving Co in soho this weekend. I'd send it out to a member but, as it's my first SR, I'm pretty anxious to have it ready to go...
Thanks so much for the tip man!

I've read some mixed reviews and will def post about my experience there. I still need a few essentials before I dig in but I see it as all part of the fun. I'm gonna be checking out Pasteur Pharmacy while in the city.. Supposedly they have a ton of supplies there. We'll see...
I'm in Oakland Gardens/Bayside which is also close to nassau.
