    Default Greetings From South Africa

Hi I am from Johannesburg South Africa, I have been fascinated by straight razors for sometime now and finally found one here in an antique store, from what I can see it is still in good shape. There is a stamp on it saying that it is from the Geneva Cutlery Co in New York, there is a tri-angle with the number 7 inside it. If anyboby has some info on this company I would love to here about it. I will shortly be getting a new Krieger Razor to start shaving with. I can't wait.

Hello and welcome to SRP !

Geneva Cultery Co. made excellent razors - a search of these forums (using the google search in the top right-hand corner of the page) will yield a lot of results and give you many happy hours of reading on that particular company, I am sure.

If it is not too late, perhaps you could reconsider the purchase of a Krieger - they are on the "not recommended" list due to poor quality steel. Here is a list of the current brands to avoid, and here is a thread on Kriegers specifically.

There are plenty of good new or vintage razors available. Of the new, Dovo or Thiers Issard are good (to name just two). Of the vintage, you already have a Geneva (that will probably need to be sharpened and perhaps restored a bit), and there is also the Classifieds here at SRP.

Good luck to you and I hope to see you around the forums!

    James.

Thank you very much Jimbo, It is not to late to re-order. I will check that list out. Thanks for the advice. I will also check out the classifieds to find someone to sharpen it. There was hardly any dirt on it and just 4 hours with a rubbing compound and a soft cloth it has a mirror finish on the blade.

Excellent! I would hate to see you spend money on something that would only end up turning you off straight razors, and from all reports trying to shave with a Krieger is an exercise in both frustration and futility.

I am not sure who there is in your neck of the woods who will sharpen straights for you - you may have to send it overseas. If that is the case, send me a PM - I might be able to help you out.

Thanks Jimbo, I read the reviews on the Krieger razors and I managed to cancel my order in time. I am getting a much better brand now thanks to you. I will check out if there is anyone who is able to sharpen my geneva but if I can't I will definately get in touch with you. Thank you again.
