Thread: Hello from Bamberg, Germany

Dear Gentlemen,

my name is Florian and I'd like to introduce myself to you. I'm 34 years old, practicing lawyer, big outlaw country music-fan and have been shaving with straight razors for round about one year. Being a member of the german "Nassrasurforum" and "Gut-rasiert-Forum", I heard of SRP and was curious to join a more international forum.

In the meantime I own eight straight razors, reaching from Wade& Butcher and Geneva Cutlery to Wacker, Germany.

I am looking forward to many interesting and helpful discussions and wish you many great shaves!

Grüß Gott! Willkommen bei SRP. Es freut mich, dass Sie entschieden haben, uns zu besuchen. Ich habe vor 15 Jahren in Würzburg als Austauschstudent studiert, und ich habe einmal Bamberg besucht. Leider konnte ich nur ein paar Tage bleiben. Es ist eine sehr schöne Stadt. Ich freue mich darauf, Deutschland wieder zu besuchen, aber ich werde noch ein paar Jahre warten müssen.

Anyway, you'll find lots of good info here, and plenty of interesting discussions. I'll have to check out the German shave forums you mentioned. I didn't know about them.

Welcome to SRP! You live in what my wife and I consider our second true home. I was a field artillery officer stationed in Bamberg from January 1983 until December 1985. My wife and I married in December 1983 and lived in Hirschaid. Our landlord was the late Roman Worg, the master furniture maker. His son Thomas has carried on the family business, and Thomas's brother Wulfi is a sculptor in the area. My wife and I have the fondest memories of our life there; we had many German friends (most of whom now are sadly passed away, they having been quite a bot older than we were). After we returned to the US, we were seriously homesick for 5 years. I hope all is well in Oberfranken!

@ sleekandsmooth: Wow, 23 years old an already shaving with a straight. Congratulations. At this age I thought that shaving with straights was something long gone.

@ MinATX: Your German ist perfect! And I see you're from Texas; my favourite mystery novel-writer ist Kinky Friedman and I love listening to Scott H. Biram, the dirty ole one man band.

@ Durhampiper: Sure, Oberfranken, especially Bamberg is mighty fine. But now ist has been decided, that the U.S. Army will leave soon (which feels strange) as I work near Warner Barracks, at University of Bamberg/Department of Social and Economical Sciences. I am very glad you liked it and still do round here.

Outlaw country kommt gut. Hab die Musik wirklich erst in den letzten Jahren entdeckt - Townes Van Zandt ist für mich einer der grössten! Letzten Oktober hab ich Steve Earle in der randvollen Hamburger Markthalle gesehen, super Konzert.

Du scheinst ja eine ganz gute Messer-Sammlung zu haben. Darf ich fragen, wo Du in DE / Europa Rasierprodukte einkaufst? Ich ziehe nämlich im April wieder für eine Zeit nach Hamburg...
