Default Greetings and salutations from a rookie in Chicago

“Allow myself to introduce… myself” -Austin Powers-

    Hello one and all,

I’m here because I’m tired of the whole disposable razor thing. I mean seriously, does a guy really need 4 blades destroying his face and making what’s left of his post shaven skin hate him for it? It's time to man up. Besides, buying those replacement cartridges is like making a car payment.

It’s information overload here on SRP. So many razors, brushes, strops, soaps, oils, creams, etc. Where the heck do I start? I have read just about everything in the Helpful Links box that applies to me so now it’s just a matter of picking something out. I ask for your advice and opinions as I’m leaning towards a straight razor wet shaving set from Straight Razor Designs (Dovo 5/8, 3 inch strop). I’m not worried about nicks or cuts since that’s part of the learning curve. I just want some equipment that can’t be blamed for my lack of skill in using it.

I have yet to make my first purchase but have warned my wife that it will be soon. Fortunately she’s on board with this decision (besides tomorrow is my 40th b-day so how could she not be?). I’m wondering if there are any people here who are from my neck of the woods (western suburbs of Chicago).

Wish me luck, steady hands, and patience. Of course, I like to muskie fish so I think I have some of the patience thing down.

    Thanks in advance,

    RFP357

Welcome to SRP. Glad to see you're doing some research regarding your first purchase, as the saying goes, "Knowledge is power." You can not go wrong with buying a starter kit from SRD, plus the razor comes shave ready honed by Lynn himself. That is a great way to start. There are quite a few members in your neck of the woods and I'm sure they'll be along soon enough. Best of luck, Happy Birthday, and keep us posted of your progress.
Why doesn't the taco truck drive around the neighborhood selling tacos & margaritas???
