    Default Greetings From Sunny Cleveland

That's not a joke, it is actually sunny right now.

Not sure what all goes into these hello posts, but here goes nothing.

I DE shaved for about a year before switching to straights about 6 weeks ago. I jumped over here from Badger and Blade, it looks like there is a lot more info over here.

    My Gear
    Razor - Dovo Astrale - 5/8
Brush - Kent BK4 pure silver tipped brush. I think I want my next one to be less floppy
Strop - Got the $20 poor man's strop kit from whipped dog
Soaps - Using Cella due to thick lather it easily provided. Big fan of DR Harris - Arlington as well
Stones - I have a Naniwa 12000 and DMT 325 on the way from straight razor designs as recommended by Don. I literally just made the connection that Lynn from this forum and that website are the same person. I'm not trying to suck up, but Lynn/Don, you will make a lot of money off of me. Do you have a rewards system?

    Current Shaving Abilities
I've been at it for about 6 weeks. Right now I just do 1 or 2 WTG passes and will probably start going XTG here shortly. Unfortunately, I've cut myself a handful of times and have beaten up my strop. I guess it's all part of learning though. Any tricks about healing cuts would be greatly welcomed.

    Shaving Goals
Straight shaving is awesome, I love it so far. Really I'm just looking to get the closest, most comfortable shave every morning. Someday I may become more of a hobbyist and restore old razors, maybe sharpen out of my house, etc.... Another thing, I think I should have been born in the 1930's/40's and I guess this helps me "connect" to old school values and practices.

    Hobbies
    Church/Theology
Wife/Family (first little due in June)
    My two dogs
Enjoy trap and skeet and am just getting into handguns. I don't get out nearly as much as I would like.
    Fishing
Sports (Watching) - Packers, Michigan, Tigers, Red Wings.
Sports (Playing) - Softball, basketball, running, swimming, biking
Triathlons.....casually, I cannot emphasize this enough.
    Pipe smoking
Bourbon - Woodford Reserve is overrated....glad that's off my chest

Sorry if that is to much or to little. It's nice to be here!

    Welcome to SRP!

One nice thing about being in NE Ohio, in addition to the sunny weather, is that you aren't too far from the Straight Razor Designs retail location in Medina. If you like wetshaving you will love it there. It could be about time to get a little get together organized....

Where should I put stupid noob questions? Putting one here.

I got my Naniwa 12000 in the mail today, is it not supposed to come off the plastic base?

The stones are usually glued to the base

Is there any reason I can't do my four dozen passes on the strop at night? And save myself some time in the morning?

I don't think so. That should be fine. Just roll with it and see if it suits your needs. I know a few people who strop before and after shaves. I think it all boils down t personal preference.
