Greetings from Greensboro NC!
I was a straight razor shaver about 10 years ago and somehow got lured into the ease and convenience of modern equipment. Looking back on things... I really miss the "ritual" for shaving.
The care of the blade. The choice of shaving creams. The proper time to spoil myself with a good shave. Helping to preserve the art.
I'm back and decided to catch up on my reading for techniques and stuff and fell upon this forum. Lots of good people and information here!

Welcome to SRP
Yup, the reasons you write for missing the straight is pretty much what I love about this sport!
I hope you will enjoy your stay here, and that you will share with us what changes you see in the rituals since your first period with it.Bjoernar
Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years....

Thanked: 0Still in GSO
Are you still in Greensboro? If so, do you know of a local (triad) place that still does straight razor shaves with a blade that requires care? I'm looking for someone who can hone my razor (I'd pay, of course) and possibly give me some tips/pointers.

hi!
Yes, I am still in Greensboro. I love close to the airport. I do not know of any place which does an old fashioned blade shave but I shave "old school" every day. I am not great at honing razors but I can keep them sharp once they are honed. I once honed an old Dovo razor and got good results from it.
I would say that all you need is a barber's hone and a strop. I bought all of the sharpening stones (various grits) and just don't use them. The barber's hone is just about all I need.
Let me know if you have any other questions. ;0)
