Thanked: 0New to SRP & to straight razors. Need some advice asap, please.
Hello, all. The name's Thom (like "Tom") & I'm new here, & to straight razors. The cartridges for my Fusion have finally p*ssed me off for the last time, being expensive & then not worth the money when they pull & tug at my whiskers.
So, being a man who agrees with the old adage "they don't make them like they used to," I began my search on eBay & came across this...
eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices
Can anyone tell me anything about it? I love the handle (forgot the technical name) & the blade looks fantastic, but again, I know nothing about straight razors, so hence I came here.
Just wondering if this would be a good razor for a beginner? And time is of the essence on this one, since the auction ends in a matter of hours, so, please, reply back asap, if at all possible.
Thanks guys, & I look forward to using & learning about these amazing things, despite the massive learning curve.

Welcome Thom. Looks like a decent straight to me. Have in mind that it will most likely not come shave ready, and it will need honing before it can be used for shaving.

Welcome to SRP. I don't know the brand. The blade looks like a quarter hollow with a bit of wear at the point but not bad. The one pic shows the scales (handles) slightly warped to my eye. There doesn't appear to be much wear but you'll have to send it out for honing which would cost you about $20 for the going rate AFAIK. Unless of course you have the hones and skills to do the honing yourself ? You might also take a look at the SRP classifieds where members put razors up for sale and also some offer honing services at a nominal fee. These are not affiliated with SRP pre se but SRP offers members the classifieds to provide each other with goods and services.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 194hey there,
welcome! any razor you buy can always be honed by a pro or by someone on this website that offers it in the classified section. You will find so much great info and help here at SRP and will be shaving with that straight in no time. I am sure others will have some better input for you, I am fairly new to straight shaving myself. anyways,
good to have you here
shayne.

Thanked: 0Thanks everyone for the welcomes. I'm actually really really excited to get shaving with one of these old timey pieces.
Also, I found this. I love the scales (I'M LEARNING!) but again, not sure about the brand quality.

Welcome, Thom, I'm a newb here to so feel at home. Looks like a pretty decent str8 to me from the pic. Have to agree with the guys above it will more than likely have to be honed to shave-ready to use.
Oh, and buy the way once the RAD takes over please post pics, everybody here likes razor porn. LOL

Thom it looks nice. Be aware that there are a bunch of guys here with RAD ....razor acquisition disorder ...... and they may not have seen those that you've pointed out. Now that they've seen them ..... well .... the auction ain't over until its over. I wouldn't tell my sainted Mother if I was watching a razor on ebay.

RAD is in epidemic stage on this forum... helloThom please watch out for any symptoms after you will buy new razor. I got my first 4 months ago... now I have about or more than 50....
