    Default San Antonio Starter

Hey everyone. Been wandering around the forum for a couple weeks and it's time I joined in. I started using a cheap disposable about a month ago and am looking to upgrade. I don't know exactly what to look for except for what I've been reading on here. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

What's your budget for a razor and strop?

The answer will help limit the advice . . .

PS -- sonewhere in the Wiki, there are documents "Brands of Straight Razor to Avoid" and "Known-Good Brands of Straight Razors". those might be helpful, but neither one of them is complete.

Well, I think 300 would be my budget. I've been looking at the art of shaving because they have a shop nearby and I think their dovo or thiers issard straights are gonna be it. As for strops I'm looking for something inexpensive because I still don't have my technique down. Are there any other retailers around the area that sell quality razors?

i would reccomend a starter set from any of the good folks over in the vendors corner or the classifieds here. A quality, truely, shave ready razor and strop is all you really need and vintage ones are IMHO better than the new razors. the razor does not need to be super pretty to shave wonderfully. your first set should be relatively inexpensive and well below your budget.... once you have a few shaves in then you can slurge on the toys... there will be lots of other things you will want.

also prior experience finds that AoS razors are not truly shave ready when you buy them, reguardless of what they say, sorry.
    Be just and fear not.
