Thanked: 0Noob from PA
Hey all,
Just wanted to introduce myself. I started shaving with a DE in January, and mastered that pretty quickly. While DE shaving is fun, I was really drawn to the allure of shaving with a straight. So, after some back and forth with myself, I took the plunge and bought a straight kit from Larry at Whipped Dog. Last week, I received my Tonsorial Gem, along with a strop and some oxide treated balsa strops. Had my first shave with it yesterday, and I was pretty impressed with how smooth it shaved. It was pretty well balanced too. Surprisingly, I didn't even cut myself, but I did have a bit of razor burn, which I'm sure will dissipate as my technique improves. And now, of course, I'm trolling the boards for a razor I can restore myself. And looking for hones. And anything else I can get my hands on.
Anyway, I'm glad to be here.

Thanked: 498Welcome colaim to the forum, you wont regret going to a straight it will take a bit of learning with technique as you said but in the end you will be pleased with the outcome. My advise to you is first master shaving for a bit then you can dabble with honing and such. You have much to learn with the fundamentals, dont rush you will have a much better result in the end.
Again Welcome aboard!!!
