New str8 rzr user from Alabama
I'm a new str8 rzr user from Alabama. I've always been interested in using a str8 blade since my early childhood, but had never tried it. I remember watching my father use his brush & mug and always wanted to try. Then my wife gave me a very nice brush & mug for Christmas last year. I loved the "ceremony" of the shave. Then I was in the Atlanta AOS and purchased my first straight. I haven't shaved with anything else since then! I've since purchased a couple of other str8s and love them all. Some of my friends think I've lost my mind, but those that really know me know how much I love the nostalgia and history associated with using a str8 rzr. I had the pleasure of meeting Max when I was in Las Vegas last weekend. He was unbelievably kind and welcoming. My wife than surprised me with a beautifully restored Frederick Reynolds for our anniversary. I can't even begin to explain how "cool" it feels to shave with a 120 year old blade! It now has a special place in my daily rotation. I've learned so much from this forum, and hope to continue learning from everyone.

Thanked: 270I can really identify with the charms and desire of straight razor shaving.
It really sounds like you learned an awful lot faster than I did as well.
What made me game to actually try it was years of irritation and dissatisfaction with disposable/cartridge/multiblade/electric razors. Not only am I enjoying something I once hated, I'm getting comfort and far better results.

Thanks for the encouragement everyone! I don't know how much i'm "learning," but I am trying to read as much as I can on the forums and trying to research as much as I can. Luckily, I had a mentor tell me to begin shaving with my left hand (I'm naturally right handed) about 20 years ago as "practice" for the O.R. Little did I know, that would be invaluable when I began straight razor shaving. Still have a long way to go, but I'm sure enjoying the journey!!!
