    Default Hello from North Dakota

Hello all! I have been lurking and reading alot. Started awhile back with a brush and soap instead of canned cream. I found out I was doing it all wrong by looking around on this site! Started with a str8 a couple of weeks ago. It has gone good so far. Sometimes I get a slash to the ear or forget that lateral movement of the blade while pressed to flesh produces pink lather! My septic (tic) pencil gets a work out. I have also tried to hone a couple of my antique store treasures. Not quite as smooth feeling as the ones I sent away, but I am working on it. I also have a three row Swaty( I think that's what it's called) that seemed to help smooth up my first tries at honing. They shave pretty good. Just have to convince the wife that I need at least two more so I can have seven razors in my rotation. One for each day. Then I will have to find a way to convince her that I will need more!
Lots of fun and informational reading on this site. Very glad I found it.

proper beard prep, take your time, pay attention to angle, and LIGHT touch. You'll get there. Focus on the basics and don't worry about rushing. WTG passes only till you are comfortable, then once you feel comfortable give it a few more days and try your XTG. Patience and confidence will be your biggest helpers while you are learning. A year in and I am still learning.
