Default Hello from central Ohio!!! Washington Court House to be precise.

I know the date below my name says 2009 but I'm just now getting my gear together. Bought an old Corneta razor brush bowl and strop, and was ready to get into this branch of shaving full tilt. Had the razor honed and sterilized.

Then life kicked in. The wife got pregnant. So my first inclination was to work my behind off to pay for the medical expenses, while the rest of my time was spent helping out. ANYWAY... short story now longer my desire had to be shelved till about another little boy later and one month ago.

Now that i found myself with the time to devote to the process i discovered my blades to be dull. So with fresh tax money in hand i purchased a two combo stones from Norton a 220/1k and 4k/8K and tried to hone. That's when i learned from a post to the forum that I needed to purchase a lapping stone. So i added a DMT 325 to my collection.

I'm ready now. Hung my cheap strop. No bowl or brush....UGH! Lost in the 4 times we moved and they were boxed and re-boxed. So maybe you're wondering "What's this guy lathering up with?" Well it's Barbasol and fingers for now. Don't judge me please.(not to be read in a serious voice. Think it quickly and whymsicly.) I need some guidence for the finer points in a great shaving experience. That and i thought it might be a good idea to get a little more feel for using the razor and when i feel more comfortable i'll dive into the brush, bowl, soaps, creams, ect... a little at a time. But i have my beginners honing kit.

I feel i have the touch for honing as i am very inclined for detail oriented tasks just not the experience to know how much to hone and strop and when to hone. My razor is definitely worlds sharper than it was. When i tried it out on my right and left sideburns and cheek areas it was more smooth than my chin, which was shaved with a Mach 3. Will be exciting to have the experience that will bring confidence to my abilities.

Are there any events, get togethers, member meet-n-greets in the central Ohio area? I noticed that they do them in Seattle, WA area.

One other Question I'd like to pose. Has anyone been to one of Donnie Hawley's barber shops? Hawleywoods. Maybe i'm a sucker but that looks like THEE place to get a hair cut. If i were in California that is.

Anyway that's my story thus far. Other than that I work like a dog as a Bricklayer. When we need work I get dragged i spend large quantities of time in the estimating dept. Used to play alot of pool. Not as good as i used to be now but when i get loosened up WATCH OUT!!! Now i spend time wrestling my two little boys and romancing my wife when i can. Not to try and sell my Bricklaying but i build the best fire pits and have extensive photos of the one i built in my backyard. Anyone in central ohio hit me up. That's all the selling i plan to ever do. Here anyway.

I welcome all the help and mentoring i can get. I'm like an enormous knowledge spounge. Tell me stuff all day and i'll just eat it up. Especially if i get some hands on teaching in. So i emplore anyone within my area to contact me. I'm a little less than an hour south of Columbus in Washington Courth House, Ohio. The locals here (at least when we were kids in high school thinking it would better to live anywhere else in the world) call it Washington 'Corn Hole'. Near the intersection of I71 and SR35.

I make an effort to check my email and internerd stuff regularly but sometimes not when the boys crave an all day wrestle and tickle battle.

I know this i getting lengthy i feld that i should explain my nickname JazzWillie. My grandma called me that thinking it would be my nickname after i became a professional basketball player, I was 2 years old at the time. Needless to say i never even played in all my years of school what-so-ever. But the nickname stuck. Thanks grandma.

    Thats it i promise.

Well its nice to meet you and welcome. I've been there and done most of what your talkin about so I completely understand. Enjoy every minute you can with the kids, because one day your going to wake up and say where did the years go and they'll be all grown up before you know it. I worked years and years ago when I was a teenager with an old Irish stone mason, and once in awhile still do a little here and there to help somebody out. Enjoy the adventure of straight shaving because that's what it's all about. And someday you can pass it on to your sons.
