First, welcome to SRP. Glad you decided to come back to the true path. That is a nice looking dovo. do you still have your old strop or were you also getting a new one. you will love the edge lynn puts on those babies and will shortly be enjoying a better shave than you got with that old razor shaped chunk of metal.

    enjoy,
    jim

I didn't have a strop in college (I was a poor college student). I used some paper that I pilfered from the physics department. Thus, I will need to purchase a strop. I honed the blades with a couple of Japanese water stones that my Step-Grandfather-In-Law gave me. He's a friend of Murray Carter, a master knive smith. I'm still running short on cash (that my wife will let me spend) so I need to be frugal in my shaving expenditures. However I don't want to get something that i will not be happy with. That Dovo is basically and ideal razor for me from what I've researched. Yes, it is a square point and I'm a novice, but my wife likes my beard so i will need the point to trim properly. I really like the looks of the razor even though Carpe Diem is not my motto per say. I'm not too concerned with the looks of the razor although I don't mind spending $20-30 more for beautiful real wooden scales rather then some plastic ones (the dovo "best quality").

My next hurdle is my wife. She says that I can get that razor for Christmas but I'm completely apposed to buying any more disposables. Any suggestions on trying to convince her to let me make the purchases?

Ah, SWMBO makes life difficult at times. you can lower your inital costs alot by not buying a brand new razor. instead look through the classifieds for a vintage one or contact the various vendors, many of whom have great starter sets. although i have not bought from him, larry anderson at whipped dog razors is very well respected for his $55 sight unseen deal... the razor may not be the prettiest but it should give you a nice shave and a strop at a price the little woman can hardly complain about... then for your birthday she can buy you that nice dovo from SRD!

I-86 I runs East-West just above the PA boarder. About an hour east of Jamestown, NY is Olean, NY. That's where the better half is from.
