Thanked: 0Hello from Oklahoma
Checking this out. Been using a DE and tried to use a shavette. Very close shave with the shavette, actually bloody close. Just been looking through here for tips. When I can get through a shave without bleeding I will treat myself to a real straight razor. Got to admit the part of my face that didn't get cut up was baby butt smooth. Couldn't help myself and kept rubbing my face, so smooth. I have a very tough beard and sensitive skin so I don't get close shaves very often.
Good day to all.

Welcome! I started with a shavette also, Parker SR1. It still gives me some of the closest shaves ever. I was a bit disappointed when I got my first real SR, as I felt it didn't do as well. But the difference is in the honing, stropping, and maintenance compared to that of a disposable system (where a fresh new blade is installed every couple of shaves). Good luck and spend some time getting to know your way around the forum. There are a lot of cool and helpful things AND people in here.

Hi from Tulsa! I'm new to this myself, but enjoying the learning process of it! I've never used a disposable straight, but I've acquired a few vintage straights in the last two months, two off which are honed and usable. I love them. Welcome!

Hello Bob,
Welcome to SRP forums!! As said above, you'll find help here in every area of the shaving process. When in doubt, ask here, it'll save you some money and frustration in the long run. Hope your new adventure is as rewarding and fun as most of us have found it. I'm a little ways south of OKC. If I can ever help out, don't hesitate to pm me, and maybe we can meet up! Many good shaves!!!
Regards,
Howard
ps: I've never used a shavette, but if what I read is correct, and it seems so, if you ever get through a bloodless shavette you've done something! You'll love a real straight!!!Last edited by SirStropalot; 03-17-2012 at 04:59 AM.

Thanked: 0Thanks
Thanks to all for the welcome, I went ahead and bought the razor of the month, the boker stainless and received it today. I really tried that shavette but just kept slicing my face up. So I thought I would just make the jump and get a true straight. Just used it for the first time and not one nick, not the closest shave though, I was being very cautious. Afterwards I went back over with my de. Then I nicked myself. Kinda funny in a way. Definitly in need of more practice.

keep being cautious, that's not a bad thing.
if you need anything or have any questions...there are a lot of guys on here that are way smarter than me, but feel free to send me a PM if you need any help/advice, and if i don't know the answer, i'll send you to someone who will.

My first straight was the very same razor. It's a very good shaver and takes a very sharp and durable edge. Once you get your technique down you'll find this to be a very comfortable and smooth shave! Also you should have received the certificate for an additional honing from Lynn which is a nice benefit. I don't know if we're close, but I'm 30 minutes from OKC, so if you need to see or try anything, just (as we say) holler!!

Howard
