Welcome to SRP!
There are plenty of videos and tutorials in the wiki. tell us about your gear, pictures would be better. if your razor is not shave ready technique and proficiency will not matter. show us the goods.

Welcome to SRP. You should check with your friends if the razor has been honed post factory from somebody who's proficient at this. If they have no idea assume 'no' and have that done first. You may be able to find somebody nearby, that's usually the best way to also get a quick intro in person. If not the mail works pretty well - there are plenty of people who offer honing services, take a look at the classifieds section.

Hey! Welcome aboard! It's good to have friends like that! I know!
Take it slow and do your research. Make sure you don't have a bad experience with it. Read up the beginners info and have a lot of fun changing the way you approach shaving!!
Good to have another military man aboard, my oldest son is currently serving in the Army as a helicopter pilot, my brother in law is a retired marine lifer!
We welcome sharing any knowledge that may assist you so please ask when you need it!
Good luck, have fun!
