Thanked: 2Hello from NH!
I tend to be a read more, post less type of guy until I know what's going on but I thought I should introduce myself.
I live in Northern NH and I love all things sharp and most things vehicular. I'm a welder/fabricator by trade and a greaser by hobby. I enjoy; collecting knives and razors (new and old), working on vintage motorcycles and classic cars, good music and great beer, spending time in the woods and sharing stories around a fire. I also like to cook, talk shop, and drink coffee. I'm 29 years old, a husband, and the father of just about the greatest little boy in the universe.
I got into straight razors because I believe some tools and how to use them should not be swept aside by 'advances' in technology. I also feel that everyone should have a bit of ritual in their lives, even something taken for granted by most like shaving or making the perfect cup of joe.
Great forum ya got here, thanks for letting me lurk for so long!

Thanked: 498Welcome BoneDaddy to the forum and to straight razor shaving. I liked your intro, very poignant. This is a great place to learn about all aspects of straights. The membership here are so knowledgeable and will be more then happy to lend a hand.
Enjoy!!!

Thanked: 33Glad you could join us. Very nice introduction, and I am in 100% agreement that some things should not be left on the side of the road to rust, but need to be kept alive. And as for the perfect cup o' joe, after my shower and SR shave I grind my beans, boil my water, and make my french press in a cup to take with me to work. It doesn't get better than that, I sure never thought that my mornings could be amazing! I have the whole ritual down to about 1 hour. 45 minutes for the shower and shave (7 minute shower). Helps my whole day feel more complete.

Thanked: 33If you do start grinding your own beans, check out the Bodum stainless double wall french-press travel mug. I use it nearly every morning. It even comes with an extra lid without the filter so you can use the cup as a regular travel mug too. Great investment.

Amen on that ritual, BD!
We have members here who buy green beans and roast them with a heat gun and stainless steel bowl. I haven't gone there yet, but after using a Bodum French press for years and years, I've found I get the smoothest, most flavorful cup from my antique Cory vacuum coffee pot. Just as with shaving, folks knew how to do it right "back in the day!" Quality suffers when modern convenience sets in.
Welcome to SRP!
Namaste,

Glad to see another coffee freak on the board!
Welcome to SRP. I love coffee about equally as much as straight razor shaving. So long as you aren't prone to trembling fingers, I do believe they mix well together. Heck, we have this one member who posts coffee pr0n with all of his SOTD pictures. It's remarkably beautiful.
If only I had a better camera....

Thanked: 2Well, I believe you guys have sold me on the french press. That Bodum mug sounds pretty great, I'll have to seek one out for myself.
