    Default New in MD

After having read many threads on the forums while listening to Frank Sinatra Radio on Pandora, it accrued to me that I should join and introduce myself. I have no experience with wet shaving at this time, but it’s something I have often thought about getting into.
Tonight I finally get to pick up my grandfathers DE from my moms place, figured that was a good place to start. I already have cheap shave soap, brush and bowl set I picked up from the drug store.
I’m sure I’ll be on here often asking questions.

Welcome RedBranch. You have found the place to be for wet shavers. Ask tons of questions, you'll always get answers, and read, read, read. Oh yeah, watch videos too. Take your time and don't get discouraged on your new quest. This hobby is so addicting as you'll soon see. Enjoy your grandfathers DE and cherish it. I only wish I had a hand me down like that!

    RedBranch,

Welcome to SRP. As RNMike has already noted, feel free to ask tons of questions and read the SRP wiki. There's lots of information there about wet shaving.

You'll be introducing your face to a different, albeit older, type of shaving technology when you use your grandfather's razor. Remember to use light pressure when using your grandfather's DE razor and only make a maximum of 2 passes over the same area of your face. That will reduce the possibility of razor burn.

BTW...You mentioned that you already have shaving soap, brush and bowl, but do you have any razor blades for your grandfather's DE razor?

Again, welcome. Take care--and smooth shaving.

Not yet. I wasn't sure if there where different kinds or not, so was waiting till I picked it up to get the blades.

Didnt feel like I had much control with it this morning as I can only hold it with two fingers tips and a thumb, as my neck can attest to . Think I'm goin to go ahead and get a sight unseen straight and poor mans strop from Wippeddog.com. I will of course keep this one as it was my grandfather. Might get a full handle DE as well.
