    Default Hello from VA

    Hello all,

I do not have any straight razors....yet. I am just trying to do a little research before seeing if this is something I want to commit to. I am tired of spending a ton of money on disposables (currently using the fusion proglide power). I have to admit, I am very intimidated. Something about putting a razor close to the jugular makes me a little nervous. Anyway, a little background on me. Been in the Navy for 17 years. Lived in a few different countries, but have been in Virginia for the last ten years (minus two that I spent in Japan...long story). BTW, if anyone is located near Port Everglades my ship will be there the 25th to the 30th, so if you would like to stop by for a tour, just let me know.

    Welcome to SRP!

Thank you for your continuing service. Buying a razor and strop need not be overly expensive. the kit will cost between $50 and $200+ depending on your options. the $50 set would be a vintage razor and a beginner strop... inexpensive enough to not be too upset if you mess one up, the $100 sets mostly likely will have a new razor and perhaps a better strop. both razors will shave you well so most of the price is personal preference.

many vendors on this site (vendors corner) have kits or will help you with one all you need to do is make sure the razor has been honed by somebody who knows what they are doing.

    enjoy,
    jim
