    Default Hello (I guess)

Hey, everyone. I'm bad at introductions, but I figured I'd give it a go, since this forum seems pretty good.
I am, of course, new to the whole straight razor shaving thing. I've had it in my mind for years now, but my parents were less than excited about me wanting to shave with a straight razor when I was 16 :P
Now that I live on my own, I want to give this a try. I absolutely hate shaving with "modern" razors. To the point that I might just not shave for a week (fortunately, I have a job where I can get away with this). But I like to be shaved, to be clean. And the time it takes to do this doesn't bother me. It'll give me some time to wake up in the morning.

I also happen to be into e cigarettes, which, strangely, is a lot like straight razors in a few ways: It's hard to find a good starting place, there's a lot to learn, and everything comes down to preference in the end.
With this in mind, I think I can figure out straight razor shaving.

I am also intrigued with the "art" of it all. I like making things, particularly bracelets. To be able to make or do something beautiful with my hands is wonderful. To be able to wake up every morning and look in the mirror at a perfectly shaved face would just make my whole day better, knowing I did something that few others can.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't largely inspired by Sweeney Todd. I love the old barber tradition, the hot towels and scented soaps. And I love straight razors as a hand crafted blade. Even if I don't take to shaving with one, I've always wanted a straight razor just to HAVE one. For me, they are kind of like butterfly knives: a simple tool (the blade) utilized in a very special and clever way.

For those of you with who know of personality types and the like, I happen to be an INFJ. If you don't know what that means, you can either google or ignore it. It doesn't really matter much, just an interesting tidbit.

Oh, and I like Rubik's cubes.

There we go. I hope that's a proper introduction, telling a little about me, and about my first impression/ introduction to straight razors.
So far, everyone has been very welcoming, and I'm sure you all will continue to be so. Seems like an awesome community. Ummm... happy shaving?

Welcome to the forums. I hope you take the time and stick with it...you're correct, the nostalgia of straights is cool - you'll find using them regularly even better.

Welcome to SRP Razziel. Pleased to have you aboard as a new member.

So you want to take the plunge into straight razor shaving? Check out the SRP wiki. It contains lots of information about straight razor shaving. You may also want to consider purchasing Lynn Abram's dvd, "The World of Straight Razor Shaving." It helped me a lot when I was beginning my own journey into straight razor shaving.

Peruse the ads of the vendors here who support SRP. They will give you some idea of what's available out there in terms of new straights. They also all have nice razor/strop deals that you may be interested in, rather than going a la carte.

Finally, check out the SRP "Classifieds" forum. That will give you an idea of what's available in vintage straight razors.

    Take care--and smooth shaving.
