    Default Greetings from Singapore

Hey guys and girls, a big hello here from warm Singapore. I've just pulled the trigger on a nice Dovo to complement my collection of DE razors. This would be my first straight so what better opportunity to join this esteemed society! I've been living here for 6 years now but am originally from The Netherlands.

    Cheers!

Welcome to the forum, and enjoy your new razor! But I must say calling Singapore warm is like calling ice cubes cold. haha. It's a bit more than warm IME. I'm toying with the idea of relocating myself. Care to sell me on it?

Coming from Quatar, perhaps the humidity was a relief? I got my requisite 3 beers there a few years ago. The traffic was frightening, and the pearl trade was thriving it seemed. The mall was incredible, but I didn't see anything a normal working class guy would need.

Singapore is the easiest place in Asia to relocate to. If you have young kids it's fantasticaly safe and clean. It can be boring at times though as everything is very regulated including what goes for culture here. My place is 5 min walk from the beach (Pasir Ris) and there are some great places in the park to have a beer and a nice cigar and look over the water.

Last time I was in Singapore was in 1972. I was in the US Navy. It was BEAUTIFUL then.

Is the Raffles Hotel still in business? I've heard that the Infamous Bugis St has been done away with. Had a lot of fun down there getting drunk on Tiger beer with some Scots that were stationed there.

I remember well the little old ladies in the BIG hats sweeping the streets with hand made brooms whilst smoking GIGANTIC hand rolled cigarettes, signs stating "MALES WITH LONG HAIR WILL BE WAITED ON LAST", and "NO SPITTING ON SIDEWALKS!"

    Fond memories.

Funny, I was reading your post at the exact moment my train stopped at Bugis. Bugis Street is still there although it's very touristy. Raffles Hotel has been renovated and is still in full operations. I doubt you'll recognise much though since Singapore has transformed into a high tech business hub.
